Cataracts are more common than you think.

Cataracts become increasingly common with age. In Singapore, more than 80% of adults aged 60 and above develop some form of cataracts, which can gradually affect daily activities such as reading, driving and recognising faces if left untreated.

At Atlas Eye Specialist Centre, cataracts are among the most commonly assessed and managed eye conditions. Using modern surgical techniques, our team focuses on surgical precision, patient safety and personalised care.

Cataract surgery can be claimable through Medisave and selected insurance policies. Consult us for a detailed cataract assessment.

Key Procedures for Cataract Surgery

Depending on your assessment results, the doctor will advise which cataract surgery is suitable for you.

Micro-incision Cataract Surgery
(Microincision Phacoemulsification)
  • Cataracts are liquified using ultrasound energy before removal.
  • The cataract is removed through a small 2-3mm incision.
  • As the wounds are self-healing, stitches are usually not required, allowing for faster recovery.
Bladeless Cataract Surgery
(Femtosecond Laser-assisted)
  • A femtosecond laser uses precise laser pulses to create the incision and fragment the cataract before removal.
  • The laser-assisted approach allows for precise wound construction and accurate lens positioning.
  • This minimally invasive method may be recommended for selected or more complex cataract cases.
Medisave and Insurance Coverage

Most insurance policies provide coverage for cataract surgery. Our clinic team can assist with insurance pre-approvals before treatment and guide you through the claims process for a smoother experience.
